Mobility Services History
"Transportation is a life-line to economic, educational and health care opportunities, as well as simple needs." -Wendy Bloch, Founder of Mobility Services
In 1991, The Kennedy Center's People Accessing Community transportation Program in Connecticut was awarded a demonstration grant from Project ACTION, to develop a generic prototype of travel-training.
Over the next six years, PACT grew tremdously in size and scope, achieving its standing as a national leader in the area of travel training.
The program in recent years has changed its name to Mobility Services and is highly reagrded for its thoroughness, flexibility, focus on safety, attention to the "whole" person and the high rate of longevity in keeping people on public transit.
Our travel training strategies have been replicated throughout the nation, and both transit districts and human services agencies turn to us for advice and consultation prior to starting new programs.
Over the past serveral years, our program has been responsible for training a very diverse clientele in urban, surburban, and rural settings throughout Connecticut.
Mobility Services also has had success in adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of individuals with different types of transportation barriers.
Of the more than 2000 people who have successfully completed the program, nearly 90 percent continue to use public transportation one year after their training.
Mobility Services is striving for it's continuation as a national leader in travel-training.
Presently, Mobility Services is contracted by the Connecticut Department of Transportation to assist in its Para-Transit eligibility process.
Due to our expertise in our field, we also regularly present at national conferences on travel training and public transportation. We also have published several manuals on travel training.
